Jewelry Development Process Part 1 – Jewelry Parts Selection

The overall jewelry product development process is one that starts with rigorous research, attention to detail, creativity and intuition. From the birth of concept, to the dissecting of technical product specifications, to producing final product; the result of cooperation between designer and craftsman is one that requires immense communication.

While jewelry designers may see in colorways and inspiration gathered from research gathered in store or online, it’s the jewelry developers who touch every facet thereafter, seeing raw components as they are and seeing how they all mold together.

Creativity + Technical Expertise go hand in hand during the jewelry production process. But what happens when you have no idea how to get things sourced or manufactured? How do you go about sourcing overseas when communication is notoriously known for being not so transparent? How do you stay in budget when costs seem so variable?

When it comes to developing jewelry overseas, many jewelry designers and buyers are left in the dark as they slowly discover how high tooling costs and all the varied costs associated with quality and complexity.

For us at ODES, we value transparency upfront and give you multitude of options when it comes to selecting jewelry parts for development.

ODM Products (no design changes):

We manufacture for our own brands seen in ODIN FASHION. You may base your design entirely on our current existing ODM designs that we have established catalogs for over 25 years. You can even customize an existing ODM product by choosing to add or remove parts

“Remove this pearl from NK0001”

Custom Design (using ODM parts):

You can also opt to design your own jewelry pieces ‘from scratch’ using existing ODM parts as a reference.

“Take this tassel from BK001 and attach it with that pendant from NK002 with the colorway from ER003 collection)

Custom Design (using OEM parts):

Custom designed parts results in high tooling costs, especially when buying a large number of SKUs. However, if you want to go for all original, our team walks over the key product specs to include and define in advance. This is all in order to reduce the number of sample batches, ensuring that you meet your target deadlines for production.
